Swim Team Coach

Description:Under the direction of the Recreation Manager, Program Coordinator and Pool Manager, the Swim Team Coach accomplishes specialized work in coaching individuals and groups regarding swim stroke activities, explains and demonstrates proper use of equipment, instructs athletes in proper competitive swimming techniques, observes athletes to detect and correct mistakes, organizes and conducts events for the City of Kyle Barracudas Swim Team in addition to: protecting lives, preventing accidents, enforcing safety regulations, providing instruction and performs related work as required.


Pool Dates run from May-2013 through September-2013
Duties:ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Coach athletes on proper swimming form and technique for all strokes.

• Observe athletes to detect and correct mistakes, as well as provide feedback on performance.

• Organize and coordinate swimming events as well as scheduled practices.

• Be aware of any medical conditions of all participates on the team.

• Become familiar with the facilities emergency procedures.

• Organizes and puts away needed swim practice equipment as well as report any equipment damage or accidents.

• Swim with efficiency and endurance with the ability to properly demonstrate the skills required for swimming events.

• Available to work week nights and weekends.

• Available to substitute in as a Lifeguard or Water Safety Instructor as needed.

• Work outdoors in a variety of environmental conditions including high temperatures, humidity and moisture and distracting noises.

• Ability to remain calm and act resourcefully in an emergency and in stressful situations.

• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing to participants, guardians, and members of other swimming organizations.

• Maintain positive working relationships will all participants, guardians, and facility staff.

• Maintains desired working relationship with Parks & Recreation Director, Recreation Manager, Program Coordinator, and City Manager.



OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Performs all other duties as duly assigned by the Parks and Recreation Director.

Qualifications:REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• American Red Cross Standard First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Lifeguard Training, and Water Safety Instructor Certifications are all required.

• Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License.

• Work may routinely require the employee to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 50 pounds.

• Work includes walking, talking, hearing, using hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reaching with hands and arms. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

• Work may routinely require the employee to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl.

• Swim with proficiency and endurance for possible rescues.

• Work outdoors in a variety of environmental conditions, including high temperatures, humidity and moisture and distracting noises.

• Work may require travel to other aquatic facilities.

• Ability to remain calm and act resourcefully in an emergency and in stressful situations.

• Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.

• Working knowledge of basic opening, closing, and cash on hand statements.

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, and the public.



QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND/OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Must have a High School Diploma/G.E.D. and a minimum of six (6) months professional experience in instructing or coaching swim teams. Two (2) or more years experience is preferred. American Red Cross Standard First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Lifeguard Training, and Water Safety Instructor Certifications are all required. Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License.

An individual who poses a direct threat to the health and safety of himself/herself or others in the workplace will be deemed not qualified for this position.
