Assistant Pool Manager

Description:Under the direction of the Pool Manager, assist with administrative, supervisory and professional work in the day to day operation and maintenance of the City swimming pool and in coordinating various aquatic programs. Accomplishes specialized work in protecting lives, preventing accidents, enforcing safety regulations and providing instructions; and performs related work as required.



Pool Dates run from May through September - 2013
Duties:ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

•Co-coordinates aquatics programs for City Pool facilities such as Learn to Swim, lifeguard classes, and WSI classes with the Parks & Recreation Director, Recreation Manager, Program Coordinator and Pool Manager.

•Assist the Pool Manager in scheduling, training, and supervising lifeguards, swimming instructors, cashiers and other related personnel.

•Assist staff in general performance of duties.

•Direct the patrolling of the pool and the enforcement of safety rules and regulations.

•Supervises and assists in cleaning the pool and related facilities and equipment.

•Coordinates schedules and maintains related records and statistics for programs and personnel at the swimming pool; prepares attendance and accident reports.

•Supervises classes, workshops and activities for persons engaged in aquatics programs and co-sponsored programs when needed.

•Assist the Pool Manager in the maintenance of the swimming pool; monitor and maintain pool filtration system; monitor pool water chemistry through testing of water samples; adjust chemistry as needed to maintain standards.

•Responds to public inquiries about aquatics programs made by person, telephone, or any other type of correspondence.

•Assume full management responsibilities of City Pool facilities in absence of Pool Manager.

•Maintains desired working relationship with Parks & Recreation Director, Recreation Manager, Program Coordinator, and City Manager.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

•Performs a variety of miscellaneous duties such as answering phones, typing correspondence, running errands, picking up supplies needed for activities, conducting classes, collecting fees; making arrangements for rental and use of pool, helping set up for classes, events, etc.

•Performs all other duties as duly assigned by the Parks and Recreation Director.
Qualifications:REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

•American Red Cross Standard First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Lifeguard Training, and Water Safety Instructor certifications are all required.

•American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification is preferred.

•Work may routinely require the employee to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 50 pounds.

•Work includes walking, talking, hearing, using hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reaching with hands and arms. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

•Work may routinely require the employee to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl.

•Swim with proficiency and endurance for possible rescues.

•Work outdoors in a variety of environmental conditions, including high temperatures, humidity, and moisture and distracting noises.

•Ability to remain calm and act resourcefully in an emergency and in stressful situations.

•Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.

•Working knowledge of basic opening, closing, and cash on hand statements.

•Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, and the public.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND/OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Must have a minimum of six (6) months professional experience in instructing or supervising water recreational activities. Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Texas Driver’s License.
